King James Only
Although I see nothing wrong with the KJV of the Bible, I do have a problem with the King James Only movement.
If the KJV is your preferred translation, please don’t be offended. I feel the KJV is an excellent translation and I use it myself on occasion. I’m currently reading the Evidence Bible which is a KJV. However, my personal favorite is the NIV, which I’ve read in it’s entirety. Thus far, I haven’t found any significant doctrinal differences between the two.

Re: King James Only
I had a mormon friend tell me that they don't use anything but the KJV because the other versions have been translated too much and can't be trusted. I asked her if she truly believed that, then why not use the "original transcripts". I mean, how can she trust the KJV then since it too is a translation. For that matter, why not at least go back to the King James Version of 1611. The KJV we read today has even been revised a couple of times I believe to more modern English.
Feel free to correct me on any inacuracies
but I believe you see my point. I personally use several different versions together such as the NIV, The Message and the KJV. :mbible

Re: King James Only
Exactly! I like to use different versions too.
A parallel Bible is nice to have - different versions side by side for comparison.
KJVOnlyists act like the Bible was originally written in Old English.
I wouldn't have a problem with someone who insisted on only the original Hebrew and Greek. I'd like to learn the original languages myself someday.

I use several versions but most of my sermon scriptures are KJV but I do occassionally use NIV and The Message.
A parallel bible is great to use for study and writing sermons. :mbible

Re: King James Only
i must say that i do not like translations of translations.
Some versions...Hmm... it pays to research different versions on the net etc, and not buy the "most popular" one that the bible shop trys to pressure you to buy. "largest market share" is not the best reason to buy a certain version lol.
there are a couple of new (and old) versions translated straight into english. I like ones translated into modern english for doing talks/devotions etc to people, but am a KJV man myself!
You can't beat the old language for descriptive language.
and i like the word "begat"

Re: King James Only
Mel,
I will be starting the small/in home groups this Sunday night. I would like to open the first session with this whole 'KJV only thing' and get it out of the way.
I have some info I plan to use, but would you be able to steer me in the right direction as to some study helps? Thanks
