For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23) For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23) In reply Jesus declared, I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again. (John 3:3) Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6) That if you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame. (Romans 10:9-11)
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law." Galatians 5:22-23

simply put....

when it comes to religion, I'm an atheist. That means that I do not have any independent religious beliefs of my own. I wish we didn't need the word "atheist", just as we don't need a special word for people who do not believe Elvis is alive and flipping burgers in a greasy spoon cafe in Iowa, yet here we are.

I do present reasons why I do not believe in any gods, but this belief is intertwined with your belief in one, so it's not so obvious.

Here's a rewording of the question:

Why are you so passionate about your lack of belief in something?

How do you know? Have you ever tried God's plan of salvation?

depends.

I pretended he existed for quite awhile and kissed his arse often enough. Is that what you mean?

The entire concept of salvation is just a little to ridiculous for me to play with ever again.

No. That's not what I mean. Why did you pretend?

Did you have anyone helping you out, helping with any questions that you might have? How often did you attend Bible studies or church services?

I'm curious to see what 'the entire concept of salvation' is as you understand it. Would you mind telling us?

Re: Did Jesus Even Exist?

I think what we have here are two distinct and separate issues. One is the existence of Jesus. While I think we can dismiss the so-called "tesimonial" in Josephus as a later forgery inserted into the text, Josephus does mention Jesus in passing when he refers to the execution of James. So I would certainly say the Jesus did indeed exist.

I would also say the Alexander the Great existed. However, this doesn't require me to accept that Alexander hitched two griffins to his chariot and ascended into heaven. nor that he rode on the back of a giant eagle and fed it a piece of his own liver when he ran out of meat to give the bird, nor that he built an iron wall across a pass in the Caucasus Mountians to keep out Gofg and Magog. Yet all these things were written about him.

Accepting the eistence othe historical Jesus does not require us to accept that he walked on water, raised the dead or himself rose from the dead.

Tim
