For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23) For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23) In reply Jesus declared, I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again. (John 3:3) Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6) That if you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame. (Romans 10:9-11)
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law." Galatians 5:22-23

I thought I did answer the question but concede that from your POV I did not. :)

No, I really don't believe you did answer the specific question. What I said was that, should we find a copy of the Gospel of john that was earlier than Papyrus Bodmer II that contained the story of the woman taken in adultery, then I woud have no choice but to concede that you were right and that the reason it was missing from Papyrus Bodmer II was because that version had been tampered with, as you suggested.

Now, here's my question once again, somewhat rephrased: If we find a number of copies of the Gospel of John that are earlier than Papyrus Bodmer II, all of which have the section that should contain the story of the woman taken in adultery, and it turns out that they don't; would you concede it was added later or would you say that they, too had been tampered with?

You, in fact did not answer this question. Instead you went off on this riff about why would people accept the existence of Socrates and not Jesus. Since this had nothing to do with whether the story of the woman taken in adultery was oiginally in John or added later, and since I had never asserted that Jesus didn't exist, I couln't understand why you brought this issue up.

My question above should be relatively easy to answer. Your answer is either "Yes, I would then concede the story ws added later," or the answer would be, "No, I would still assert that the story was part ofthe original Gospel of John." So, basically, this is a yes or no question. What is your answer?

I did feel I answered your question and didn't go off on a riff but simplify it to is most basic components, IF you could prove that the documents you have are as the orginial author had written them, then yes I would believe that there was a later addition. But that addition doesn't compromise or conflict with any other text so the point is moot.

Now I can hear Mel saying that the "addition" was divinely inspired. *giggle*

TC you spend a lot of time typing out stuff when it just boils down to "answer the dang question woman!!" emoticon
