Re: ¿Halloween?
Hasah! Welcome to UIC. Nothing like jumping right into the Debate area! I hope you enjoy the discussions here at our little board.
I kinda like Halloween myself, but for me, it contains no significance at all to Satan worship or ancient Druids.
Did you know that a lot of other holidays share some pagan origins as well? Even our days of the week come from ancient pagan god and godess names.

Re: ¿Halloween?
Sorry, :) I had some involvement in the occult for a time too and know what Halloween means to current wiccans & pagans.
And I wanted to say I'm not endorsing the particular church that wrote the article, I'm not familiar with them but it was one of the best write ups I've seen.

Re: ¿Halloween?
No problem, thanks for giving us your thoughts!
I've actually come across people on discussion boards who call themselves "Christian witches". Definitely a contradiction in terms.
Have you ever known any of those people in your previous occult experience?

Re: ¿Halloween?
I've never met them though I do remember finding a site in my wandering days on Christian Wicca. Also in my wandering days I had spoke to a pastor at 'spiritual' church, a church that supposedly was Christian but would have visiting mediums. What an oxymoron!

Re: ¿Halloween?
So, Halloween is coming up, what's everyone doing this year?
I wanna go to Free's church, with the "hall of horrors"!

Re: ¿Halloween?
i thought i'd better jump in here and set a few things straight.
All Souls' Day , is the day set apart in the Roman Catholic Church for the commemoration of the faithful departed.
Considered a holy day in the Catholic Church;Halloween is considered a holiday.
Like everything else in our culture from Christmas to Easter to Haloween it's become commercial.
How can money be made. Christmas becomes more secularized every year.I'd worry about that as much as i do about Halloween.
However, given the way things are nowadays it's not the innocent dressing up and getting candy and all that good fun it used to be.Association with the occult and sometimes ppl doing terrible things to hurt kids i'ts just not the way it used to be.You couldn't have imagined it'd be like it is these days.
Our parish has been having private get togethers too for the kinds where instead of the ghost and goulish costumes and all that they dress up as a favorite saint.
That way the kids keep in mind it's a Holy Day NOTnot a holday that they are observing.

Re: ¿Halloween?
we(Catholics)celebrate the holidays just like any other American, but the Holy Days are days in the Church on which we have the same moral obligation to worship as on Sundays. There's a bit of difference.
But the holidays could be kept just as holy as you say Staybrite-everything in our culture evolves around economics.
We're not disagreeing at all.i was just trying to clarify the difference between a Catholic Holy Day and a secular holiday.
Wikipedia defines it this way;
In the Roman Catholic Church, Holy Days of Obligation or Holidays of Obligation, less commonly called Feasts of Precept, are the days on which the faithful are required to participate in the Mass and abstain from such work or business that would inhibit the worship to be given to God, the joy proper to the Lord's Day, or the due relaxation of mind and body" (canon 1247 of the Code of Canon Law).
Some Holy Days happen to coinicide with holidays ie Christmas,Easter because they are also Christian.
